Eagles Open Season with Sweep of Texas Tech

The Eagles won by scores of 25-21, 25-13, and 25-22.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-- Boston College volleyball swept Texas Tech, 3-0, at the Margot Connell Recreation Center on Friday night to open its season with a win. The Eagles won by scores of 25-21, 25-13, and 25-22.
Neither team could maintain the lead early in the first set, evening the score six times. After both teams locked at 21, a 4-0 run led by Audrey Ross closed set one.
The second set was dominated by the Eagles, as they took the lead early and hit .231 adding on five blocks. A run of 9-0 completed the set and allowed the Eagles to take a 2-0 lead.
Texas Tech came out strong in the third set, leading the Eagles by a 8-5 margin, an 8-1 run pushed Tech to a 21-17 lead. The Eagles responded with a 7-0 run to close out the season opener.
Sophomore duo Halle Schroder and Ross led the Eagles with 12 kills, while Schroder added on 11 digs for her seventh career double-double. Senior Julia Haggerty hit .667 and dominated the net adding nine blocks.
On the back row, graduate student Morgan Riddle led the Eagle defense with 13 digs. Classmate Sophia Lambros guided the offense with 18 assists. Senior Jane Petrie added 13 on the night.
Boston College faces Eastern Kentucky at noon tomorrow followed by a nightcap against Iona at 5 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ACCNX.
