Zhong scores first two goals in maroon and gold
NEWTON, Mass. - The No. 17 Eagles (1-0) defeated the Northeastern Huskies (0-1) 3-1 on Friday evening, thanks to a productive first half, which saw Boston College take seven shots and score all three of its goals.Â
Both teams traded chances through the first few minutes, but with 8:51 on the clock in the first, Peyton Hale struck first for the Eagles, assisted by Madelieve Drion on a penalty corner. Two minutes later, Yani Zhong tipped in a pass from Martina Giacchino for her first goal in maroon and gold, putting the Eagles up 2-0.Â
The Huskies would strike back just four minutes later, as Caroline Sweeney scored on a quick pass from Lauren Rowe, to end the first quarter 2-1.
In the second quarter, Zhong would find the back of the net again, this time tipping in a shot from Peyton Hale to put the eagles up 3-1 to end the half.Â
The second half was a story of defense on both sides, as both teams were held scoreless. Charlotte Kramer posted three saves for the Eagles, while Kristi Merashoff put up nine for the Huskies. The Eagles had the edge in shot attempts (19-6) and shots on goal (12-4).
Up next: The Eagles are back in action this Sunday, September 1 for a matchup against Boston University on Community Day.
