Richard's First Half Strike Lifts Eagles Past Jacksonville in Opener

Eagles defeat Jacksonville in season opener
NEWTON, Mass. - Boston College women's soccer defeated Jacksonville 1-0 on Thursday afternoon in the season opener.
The Eagles controlled the possession during the first half, Bella Douglas and Ava Lung were both able to fire off shots on goal.
With nine minutes remaining in the first half, Ella Richards was able to get by Jacksonville's goalkeeper on a ball played by Douglas to give BC its only goal.
In the 81st minute, Jacksonville was awarded a penalty kick, but the Dolphins did not capitalize on the penalty opportunity. Giving Boston College the 1-0 victory
Wiebke Willebrandt had a clean slate recording her fourth consecutive shutout in the season opener.
This win gives head coach Chris Watkins his first win at BC.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against Merrimack in the final contest of the weekend.
