Sunday morning practice highlighted by passing game and the defensive line.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College football held preseason practice No. 8 outside of Fish Field House on Chamberlin Field Sunday morning.
The Eagles are off on Monday.
DAY EIGHT DETAILS
Date: August 11
Location: Chamberlin Field
Weather: 76, mostly sunny
7-On-7 [Low Red Zone]: The offense ran against the defense in 7-on-7 from inside the five-yard line. Thomas Castellanos threw touchdowns passes to Lewis Bond and Reed Harris, who went up for a ball in the back of the end zone. His third TD pass went to Jaedn Skeete for a back shoulder catch. Grayson James threw a touchdown to freshman tight end Danny Edgehille for the second day in a row. Defensively, Khari Johnson broke up a would-be touchdown catch. Bugg Jones came up for a touchdown-saving tackle at the one. Ryan Turner ripped the ball away from a receiver's grasp to prevent a score.
Team: Sedarius McConnell and the defensive line had a strong showing in team periods beginning with his third-down sack. Defensive backs Amari Jackson and K.P. Price teamed up in the backfield for a TFL on a run play. The first long play for the offense was a 20-yard completion between James and Dino Tomlin. Edwin Kolenge flushed the QB from the pocket and Josiah Griffin finished the play with a sack. A play later, Griffin knocked down a pass in the backfield. From his own end zone, Castellanos hit Skeete in the air for a 40-yard completion. James and Jayden McGowan hooked up for a long catch-and-run that went the distance. Luke McLaughlin came back on a deep ball from James to make a catch in double coverage. Linebacker Owen McGowan knocked down a pass behind the line of scrimmage.
Situational: Castellanos found Harris for a high-pointed, 25-yard completion up the sideline. Leading by a touchdown, the defense held its ground to force a turnover on downs. On the following series, James hit Jerand Bradley in stride for 30 yards to set up first-and-goal. Facing fourth-and-goal with four seconds left, Griffin and linebacker Sione Hala supplied the presser to force a high throw out of the end zone.
