IWLCA Names Lacrosse Staff Coaching Staff of the Year
June 20, 2024 | Lacrosse
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse coaching staff was named the ILWCA Northeast Region and National Coaching Staff of the Year on Thursday.Â
The coaching staff features head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein, associate head coach Jen Kent, assistant coaches Sam Apuzzo and Callahan Kent and graduate assistant Emily McDermott.
J. Kent coordinates one of the nation's best defenses, where it was first in the ACC and fourth in the country allowing just 8.43 goals per game. BC allowed just 20 goals in three games in the ACC Tournament and under 10 goals in 15 games.
The offense saw a balanced attack this season under Apuzzo, where BC was one of two teams to have at least five players with 40 or more goals. The 372 goals scored this season is the third most in a single season.Â
C. Kent helped continue to develop Shea Dolce, who led the ACC in goals against average (8.75) and save percentage (.470). She enters next season in the top 10 in program history with 293 saves.Â
McDermott finished her first season as a GA for the Eagles, assisting with operations and travel.Â
The Eagles are coming off a magical season in which they came back from a 6-0 deficit to knock off No. 1 Northwestern for a second national title in four seasons. BC won a second straight ACC championship and earned a 20-3 record for the program's third 20-win season (all since 2018).Â
At least seven players were named an All-American through IWLCA, Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine. In addition, eight players were named to the All-ACC Team and both Belle Smith and Sydney Scales repeated as ACC Players of the Year, while Shea Dolce was named Goalkeeper of the Year after being named Freshman of the Year.Â
Fifteen players were also named to the ACC All-Academic Team with Scales being named the ACC Women's Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year. Rachel Clark, Scales and B. Smith were Top 25 Tewaaraton finalists as well. Coach Walker-Weinstein was named the USA National Team Head Coach earlier this season.Â
The Eagles lead the country with 139 wins since 2017 with a pair of national titles, two ACC championships, and seven straight national semifinal and national title appearances.Â
