SAN JOSE, Calif. – Boston College freshman forward Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.) has signed a three-year entry-level deal with the National Hockey League's (NHL) San Jose Sharks, as announced on Tuesday by the organization.
Smith was selected fourth overall by the Sharks in the 2023 NHL Draft.
"We wish Will all the best as he starts his professional career," said Schiller Family Head Coach Greg Brown. "He had an outstanding season for the Eagles and we look forward to watching him compete at the next level."
A First Team All-America selection and Hockey East First Team All-Star, Smith led the country in points (71) and assists (46). With his two goals in the National Semifinal win over Michigan, Smith became the 11th Eagle in program history to record 70 points in a single season and first since Johnny Gaudreau in 2013-14. His 71 points and 46 assists are the most by a freshman in a single season in program history as well as his assists being tied for the second-most by any BC player in a season.
Smith became the first freshman to score a hat trick in the Hockey East Championship when he tallied four goals to lead the Eagles to its 12th Hockey East Tournament Championship, earning Tournament MVP honors.
Smith also competed on the international stage in 2023-24. He was one of seven Eagles that helped lead the U.S. to a gold medal at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship before suiting up for the U.S. at the 2024 IIHF Men's World Championship.
