BRIGHTON, Mass. — Boston College Baseball (22-27, 8-19) walked off the Maryland Terrapins (34-19, 10-11), taking game three of the series on Sunday afternoon.
Nick Wang (Newton, Mass.) opened the scoring in the series finale, driving a two-out double to the left field wall to put BC up 1-0 in the first inning.
Michael Farinelli (New York, N.Y.) started game three for BC and turned in five stellar innings of work, allowing just five scattered hits while striking out two and walking none over five scoreless frames. The Eagles and Terrapins traded scoreless frames from the second to the seventh, until Maryland tied the game at one off a solo home run in the top of the eighth.
With one down in the top of the ninth, Vince Cimini and Sam McNulty linked up for an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play to give BC a chance in a 1-1 game in the bottom of the ninth.
Nick Wang led off the inning and delivered, ending the inning on one swing, driving a 1-1 breaking ball high over the left field fence, his 10th home run of the season on the walk-off blast. Wang finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, a double, and the game-winning home run.
Eric Schroeder (Ridgewood, N.J.) earned the win (5-1) for the Eagles, setting down the side in order in the 9th inning.
Game One
In the scheduled seven-inning series opener on Saturday, the Eagles fell 8-1, with Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) driving in the lone Boston College run on a single in the fourth inning. John West (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took the loss (1-4), striking out four with two earned runs over 2.1 innings. Omar Melendez earned the win for Maryland.
Game Two
In the second half of the Saturday doubleheader, the Terrapins sustained a late Eagles rally to hang on and win 5-3. After the visitors struck for four runs in the third, BC responded with two of their own courtesy of RBIs from Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Kyle Wolff (Andover, Mass.). The Eagles loaded the bases in the final frame, with Nick Wang drawing a bases-loaded walk to cut it to 5-3, where the score would remain. Despite taking the loss, A.J. Colarusso (Leominster, Mass.) turned in another strong start, striking out six over five two-run innings. Logan Koester picked up the win for Maryland with Logan Berrier earning the save.
The Eagles will host Georgetown this Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., before traveling to Clemson for a three-game series to conclude the regular season this weekend.
