Boston College Holds Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game

The Eagles took the field for the final time this spring.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College football wrapped up its spring season on Saturday with the Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game at Alumni Stadium.
At halftime, redshirt junior Bugg Jones was named the recipient of the Jay McGillis Memorial Scholarship. The award has been given annually since 1993 to a Boston College defensive back who best exemplifies the personal qualities of team dedication and leadership by example, an extraordinary competitive spirit, and personal concern for family, friends and teammates. McGillis, a starting defensive back for Boston College, passed away from Leukemia in 1992. The Eagles' spring game is played in his honor each year.
Offensive Highlights
● Grayson James finished 21-for-29 on the day with 228 yards and two touchdown passes, including a 40-yard touchdown pass down the left side to Reed Harris.
● Thomas Castellanos had 127 yards in the air and 30 yards on the ground, combining for four touchdowns.
● James made four-straight completions during third down situational play, completing passes to Holden Symonds, Ismael Zamor, and two to Harris.
● Castellanos threw a four-yard touchdown pass in the red zone to Jeremiah Franklin.
● Having to go 50 yards with 55 seconds on the clock, Castellanos completed three passes, including a 20-yard touchdown to Jaedn Skeete, who made a great back-shoulder catch in the back corner of the end zone.
● Anthony Ferrucci and Luke McLaughlin both made seven receptions.
● Datrell Jones broke three tackles on a 16-yard reception.
Defensive Highlights
● The defense put constant pressure on the quarterbacks, recording six sacks during the first half and nine in total, led by Donovan Ezeiruaku and Edwin Kolenge, who both had two.
● Ryan Turner and Max Tucker each had two PBU's while the defense combined for nine.
● In red zone work, Daveon Crouch and Sione Hala both stuffed the backfield on goal-line rushing attempts.
● Bryquice Brown, Siona Hala and Bugg Jones each had one interception for the defense.
● Brown and Hala made their presence known, leading the way with six totals each. Kahlil Ali, Crouch and Quintayvious Hutchins all made five tackles.
● The Eagles registered 14 tackles for a loss with Ezeiruaku, Hala and Kolenge each recording two.
Special Teams Highlight: Luca Lombardo drilled a 50-yard field goal.
