Early Lead Defeats Virginia, 1-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior pitcher Abby Dunning tossed out a near perfect game to start the series against the University of Virginia, defeating the Hoos 1-0 Friday afternoon.
The Burr Ridge, Ill., native pitched her fifth complete game of the season and held Virginia to no runs and just one hit in seven innings. She struck out seven as BC improved to 10-5 on the season and 1-0 in ACC play while Virginia dropped to 11-5 and 0-1 in conference play.
The game's sole scoring came in the second inning. After Jordan Stephens walked to first and a sacrifice bunt by Gator Robinson moved Stephens to second. An Emma Jackson hit brought Stephens through home plate. UVA was unable to respond throughout the next five innings.
Boston College looks to move to take game two of the three game series against UVA tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. from Palmer Park.
