February 08, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Â Boston College women's basketball fell to Virginia 73-66 on Thursday evening in Conte Forum. The Eagles fall to 11-14 and 3-9 in the ACC, while the Cavaliers are 11-12 and 3-9 in the league.Â
Andrea Daley led the Eagles with a game-high 18 points, with 10 of her points coming at the charity stripe. Daley tied for the team lead with eight rebounds (five offensive) and three steals.
JoJo Lacey continued her solid shooting with 14 points off the bench on 5-of-9 shooting from the field with a pair of trifectas. T'yana Todd posted 12 points with six off the glass, and Dontavia Waggoner also netted 12. The senior guard grabbed eight boards, dished out a team-high four assists, and recorded three steals.Â
The Eagles got off to a fast start as they jumped out to an 18-8 lead thanks in large part to a 5-of-6 stretch during a 12-2 surge. Virginia answered, however, finishing the first on an 8-0 run to slice the gap to 18-16 in BC's favor.Â
UVA's run extended into the second, taking a 20-18 early in the period. The rest of the first was back-and-forth where neither team held a lead by more than four points. BC went into the break with a 37-34 lead after Daley hit a pair at the line.Â
Boston College went up by as much as six in the third after Todd made two at the line coupled with a Waggoner layup stretched the score to 43-37. Just when it looked like the Eagles had the momentum, UVA stayed within striking distance. The game went into the final period tied, 54-apiece.Â
BC's offense struggled in the final period, where the Cavaliers captured a 65-58 lead. The Eagles cut the deficit to one possession with 33 seconds left, but the visitors sealed the win at the line.Â
The Eagles forced 24 turnovers for 28 points, but UVA shot 49.1 percent from the floor.Â
Boston College returns to action on Sunday to face No. 16/18 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Sunday at 1 p.m.Â
