BC Clinch The Fourth Seed in Hockey East Playoffs
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's hockey team fell in the final regular season contest today against the University of New Hampshire
The first period saw four goals. UNH opened the offensive attack early, scoring one minute into the contest. The Eagles responded immediately, scoring two minutes into the game from Sammy Taber's rebound shot. Eight minutes into the game, Abby Newhook found an opportunity to give the Eagles a one-goal advantage. UNH put away the equalizer 12 minutes into the first period, tying the game at two apiece after the first 20.
During the second period, the Wildcats scored three back-to-back goals. BC responded when Kaite Pyne created an opportunity to find the back of the net. The Wildcat had held a 5-3 lead heading into the final period.
The final period saw two goals. Gaby Roy picked up the Eagles' momentum after Kaite Pyne's goal-scoring one herself. Roy cut the UNH lead down to one with 17 minutes to play. UNH put away the game-winning goal 16 minutes into the final period.
The Hockey East Tournament begins on Wednesday, February 28, with the opening round. The Eagles have a first-round bye, are seeded fourth, and will host the fifth-seed Providence on Friday, March 1, at 6:00 p.m.
