Eagles Edged by No. 18 Louisville

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball fell to No. 18 Louisville in a narrow 69-67 defeat on Thursday evening in Conte Forum. The Eagles fall to 11-16 and 3-11 in the league. Louisville improves to 21-5 and 10-3 in the conference.
Dontavia Waggoner turned in a stellar performance with a season-high 22 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. T'yana Todd shot an efficient 7-for-12 en route to 16 points, three boards, and three steals.Â
JoJo Lacey came off the bench for 10 points, registering her third game in double figures in the last four contests. Kaylah Ivey led BC with five assists.Â
It was a contest that came down to the final minutes. Despite when it looked like Louisville was pulling away, the Eagles stayed within striking distance. Trailing 65-60, BC went on a 7-2 surge to tie up the contest with 1:13 left in the game.Â
The Cardinals would score the go-ahead basket with 18 seconds left in the contest to take the 69-67 lead. BC had a chance to tie or take the lead but wasn't able to get a shot off.Â
The Eagles got off to a strong start in the first quarter, limiting the Cardinals to just 33.3 percent shooting en route to a 17-8 lead. Boston College scored the first seven points of the game after hitting three of its first four shots.Â
Boston College stayed in front and went into the second with a nine-point lead going into the second period. The Eagles shot a perfect 5-of-5 at the line.Â
A 7-1 spurt early in the second spearheaded by Waggoner and Todd grew BC's lead to as much as 10. The Cardinals responded by tying up the contest with a run of its own, 30-30. Both teams traded baskets to keep the game tied going into the break.Â
Neither team led by more than five in the third period. The Eagles ended the third on a 6-0 run over the final 1:24 of the third to take a 52-21 lead thanks to an and-1 finish from Nene Ndiaye.Â
BC returns to action next Thursday, Feb. 22nd at 6 p.m. in a road contest against Florida State.
