Women's Basketball Falls at No. 16/18 Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Boston College women's basketball fell to No. 16/18 Virginia Tech 74-63 on Sunday afternoon in Cassell Coliseum.Â
BC falls to 11-15 and 3-10 in the ACC. VT is 20-4 and 11-2 in the conference.Â
Teya Sidberry tied for the team lead with 15 points, grabbed five boards and dished out three assists. T'yana Todd also scored 15 on seven field goals and pulled down five off the glass. Andrea Daley netted 11 points off the bench.Â
Battling the Hokies early, BC held VT scoreless for the first 3:04 of the contest, leading to a 4-0 lead. BC responded after the Hokies went on a 13-2 run by cutting a seven-point gap to one, 13-12. VT scored the final basket of the first for a 15-12 lead going into the second.Â
Sidberry continued a strong start, scoring the first six points for BC in the second period. The Eagles tied up the contest 19-all. Virginia Tech scored the next five points to claim a commanding lead. BC went into the half trailing by eight after a JaKaylah Thompson field goal, 37-29.Â
The Eagles continued to climb their way back in the game despite the Hokies stretching their lead to 12 in the third quarter. Stingy defense and five straight points closed the gap to 52-46 going into the final frame, while forcing VT to miss 10 of its final last 11 shots.Â
BC climbed back to within one possession after a layup from Kaylah Ivey and a trifecta from Todd capped off five straight points. Virginia Tech answered with five of its own to push the lead back to eight. On multiple occasions the Eagles were within striking distance bringing the deficit to five, but VT kept BC at bay to pull away for the win.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Louisville in Conte Forum.
