
Eagles Beat Stanford 3-2, Advance to ACC Semifinals

BC scored every goal on penalty corners
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The third-seeded Eagles defeated the sixth-seeded Stanford Cardinal by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday evening in the ACC Quarterfinals. BC improves to 13-5 and will play the No. 2 seed Duke in the semifinals tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET.
The Eagles got on the board midway through the second quarter as Martina Giacchino tipped in a shot from Peyton Hale on a penalty corner, which was inserted by Mia Garber. BC held the 1-0 lead heading into the half.
The Eagles struck again just two minutes into the second half on another penalty corner, as Madelief Grandjean fired a shot from the top of the circle, assisted by Madelieve Drion and Kiki de Bruijne. The Cardinal got one back at the end of the third off a Star Horlock goal, assisted by Esther Pottebaum.
Early in the fourth quarter, Stanford equalized off an Allison Kuzyk goal, once again assisted by Esther Pottebaum. Three minutes later, the Eagles capitalized on another penalty corner to go up 3-2. This time it was Yani Zhong with a backhanded shot from the top of the circle to secure the victory for BC, assisted by Drion.
The Eagles had the edge in shots (18-6), shots on goal (8-5), and penalty corners (14-0), while the Cardinal had the edge in saves (5-3).Â
