Eagles Secure Senior Day Victory over Syracuse

Eagles defeat Syracuse in four sets, led by Halle Schroder and Cornelia Roach
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-- The Boston College volleyball team defeated Syracuse for the second time this week. The Eagles took down the Orange in four sets Sunday afternoon with set scores of, 24-26, 25-18, 25-23, and 25-22.
Halle Schroder led the Eagles with 13 kills while adding 13 digs, marking her 13th double-double of the season. Cornelia Roach was shortly behind with a career-high 12 kills on a match high .579 hitting percentage. Sophia Lamrbos and Aubrey Moore guided the offense adding a combined 37 assists. While the back row was led by Morgan Riddle who tallied 17 digs. Julia Haggerty led the night with 10 blocks.   Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: The first set opened evenly, locking the score eight times, landing on 13-all. The Eagles gained four of the next five points into the media timeout, 15-13 Eagles. Right out of the break the Eagles tallied another two points off of a Haggerty block and a Syracuse error, 'Cuse called its first timeout of the set, 17-14. The Eagles held the lead into the last 'Cuse timeout after back-to-back kills by Schroder, 23-20. The Orange took a late lead in the set on Eagle set point, 24-24. Syracuse closed out the set with five of the final points, 26-24.
SET 2: After falling in set one, BC dropped behind the Orange by seven points, 9-2. The momentum began to swing in the Eagles favor, adding seven of the next eight points, 10-8. The Orange responded, adding four straight with Ava Palm adding three kills. BC answered on a three point run, to then trade points with the Orange twice, and again added three straight to gain its first lead of the match. The Eagles were able to close out the match on a 7-0 run, BC regrouped after dropping the first set, and overcoming a deficit in the second to win, 25-18. The set was capped off by a kill from Roach, in the second frame Roach led the Eagles offense adding five kills on a .833 hitting percentage.
SET 3: Similar to the second set the Orange shot out to 7-3 lead. BC went on a 4-0 scoring run to lock the score 9-9. The score went on to tie four more times until two Syracuse points took the match into the media timeout, 15-13. The set continued to go back-and-forth, with the lead changing twice until Anna Herrington added back-to-back kills to put the Eagles into set point position, 24-22. The Orange fought off one set point, but a kill by Audrey Ross put the finishing touches on the third frame in the Eagles favor with a set score of 25-23.Â
SET 4: After a back-and-forth third set, BC used a six-point scoring run to take a 8-1 lead. Syracuse swung back on its own six point run to land within one of the Eagles, 8-7. 'Cuse swung back after a back and forth middle portion of the set, to even the score at 19-all. A five point Syracuse run landed them with its first advantage late in the set, 20-19. BC bounced back to go on to score four straight to again take the lead 24-20 forcing a Syracuse timeout. The squads traded points until a 'Cuse attack error closed out the match, 25-22.Â
