Women's Basketball Tripped Up at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball suffered a 78-70 loss to Harvard on Thursday evening in Lavietes Pavilion.
Boston College falls to 3-1 on the season, while the Crimson moves to 3-1.Â
Dontavia Waggoner and T'yana Todd paced the offense with 16 points apiece. Waggoner shot 8-of-10 from the free-throw line and grabbed five boards with a season-high five steals. Todd made five field goals and corralled four boards.Â
Andrea Daley netted 13 and Kaylah Ivey chipped in with 10. Teya Sidberry led the team with seven rebounds and scored nine.Â
It was a back-and-forth affair after Boston College stormed back from a 13-point deficit in the first half.Â
The Eagles led 64-61 with 5:13 left in the contest thanks to a pair of free throws by Waggoner and a layup from Daley. Harvard later regained the lead with 1:42 left, 71-67, before Ivey cut the deficit to one on the ensuing possession.Â
After going up 73-70, BC went for the tie but fell short with 27 seconds left, leading to Harvard closing the game for the win.Â
BC continued to climb back to tie up the contest, as Todd scored the final four points of the third period to send the game into a 56-56 tie going into the fourth period.Â
The Eagles started with an 8-2 run out of the gate in the first 2:22 game following an Ivey layup. Harvard responded with a barrage of 3-pointers, draining six in the frame, and shot over 55 percent from the field to head into the second with a 27-14 advantage.Â
BC weathered the storm, climbing back into the contest to bring the lead down to four at the end of the first half thanks to a 7-2 run to close out the second quarter.Â
The Eagles shot 22-of-27 from the free-throw line and forced 22 turnovers for 22 points. Harvard outscored BC by 21 outside the arc, hitting 13 3-pointers and shooting 50 percent from deep.Â
Boston College returns to action on Sunday at 12 p.m. against Providence in Conte Forum.Â
