BC gains sixth sweep of the season in victory over Wake Forest
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- The Boston College volleyball team defeated Wake Forest in three sets Friday night, collecting its sixth sweep of the season in the win over the Demon Deacons (12-10, 4-7 ACC), with set scores of 25-15, 25-15, and 25-21.
The win improved the Eagles record to 10-13 and 3-8 in the ACC.
Sam Hoppes and Julia Haggerty led the way for the Eagles with seven kills each, both Hoppes and Haggerty hit .700 for the match. Haggerty added four blocks, while Hoppes added five digs to her stat line.
Sophia Lambros and Aubrey Moore paced the Eagles at the setter position with 12 assists each. Lambros added on four digs, and Moore tacked on two aces. As a team, the Eagles hit .233 for the match and held the Demon Deacons to a .065 hitting percentage Friday night.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: Boston College used a seven-point swing early to increase their 4-2 lead to 11-4, capped off by a Wake error after a Morgan Riddle ace. Wake Forest slowly worked their way back on a three point run, 14-9, but the Eagles answered with four straight points. After an Eagle attack error, BC collected six points on a set of runs, to win the frame 25-15. Haggerty led the way in the opening set with three kills on three attacks.
SET 2:The Eagles executed another fast start in the second set, gathering a 8-2 lead on a six point run. Both teams traded points three times, but the Eagles responded with a two-point run followed by back-to-back Demon Deacon timeouts after an ace from Schroder. Wake collected six of the next ten points to cut their deficit to six. The Eagles were able to add five straight points led by Cornelia Roach and Hoppes adding a kill a piece to take a 22-11 advantage. BC was able to close out the set 25-15.
SET 3: After a back-and-forth start to the third frame, where Wake Forest held a narrow 5-3 lead, the Demon Deacons added three straight to take a five point lead. The Eagles locked the set off of five unanswered points from a kill by Hoppes, an ace by Riddle, a solo block by Haggerty, a kill by Audrey Ross, and an attack error by Wake. The Eagles gained its first advantage of the set off of a set error by WFU, 16-15, and never lost the lead. BC stretched its lead to three, but Wake Forest answered, climbing within one of the Eagles. The two teams traded points but two straight from the Eagles provided them a decisive advantage. BC claimed three of the last five points to take the set and the match. Roach and Ross each had three kills in the set, with Ross adding one solo block.Â
