BC Athletics will hold a moment of silence prior to Friday’s home opener vs. AIC
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's hockey program today announced its plans to recognize and honor former Eagles Tony Voce, Johnny Gaudreau, and Matthew Gaudreau. The trio of former BC men's hockey standouts suddenly and tragically passed away this past summer.
Â
Tony Voce was a member of the Eagles' 2001 National Championship team. A First Team All-American and two-time Hockey East First Team All-Star, Voce was a Hobey Baker Award Finalist in 2004. Johnny Gaudreau, the 2014 Hobey Baker Award Winner and two-time Hockey East Player of the Year, was a member of BC's 2012 National Championship team. Nicknamed "Johnny Hockey," he went on to play 11 years in the NHL with Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets. Matthew Gaudreau was a two-time Beanpot champion for the Eagles in 2014 and 2016. A four-year standout with 120 games played from 2013-17, he led the Eagles in points during his senior season. He went on to play professionally for five seasons.
Â
Prior to BC's home opener against AIC on Friday, Oct. 18, there will be a video tribute and a moment of silence held before the national anthem.
Â
Throughout the 2024-25 season, the Eagles will be wearing a patch on all of their jerseys with the initials for Voce and the Gaudreaus.  The men's hockey trophy case on the concourse of Conte Forum has been updated to highlight the accomplishments of all three players and their impact on the program.
Â
Additionally, the initials - TV, JG, and MG - will be prominently featured on the dashboard in front of the team bench through the game on Nov. 8 against Maine.  During warmups of the Hockey East opener against the Black Bears, Boston College players will wear jerseys that feature either Voce #13, Gaudreau #13, or Gaudreau #21.Â
Â
The jerseys will be available through an online auction beginning Monday, Nov. 11 with proceeds going to the Tony Voce Foundation and at the request of the Gaudreau family, will be going to the adaptive playground initiative at the Archbishop Damiano School in Westville, N.J.
