Freshman Tola Glowacka claims game-winning singles point
WEYMOUTH, Mass. — Boston College (1-1, 0-0 ACC) secured its first win of the season on Sunday, claiming a 4-3 victory over Brown (0-1, 0-0 IVY).
Doubles action was highly competitive to begin the day. Stephanie Sanchez and Seren Agar fell just short in the first match of the contest, dropping the set 4-6. Natalie Eordekian and Nada Dimovska responded with a 7-5 victory in a close affair to tie the doubles series at 1-1.
Marice Aguiar and Tola Glowacka fought valiantly in an effort to complete the comeback and secure the doubles point. However, the Eagles would surrender the match 6-7 as Brown took the doubles point.
The Eagles found a groove in singles competition, bouncing back by winning its No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles matches.
Muskan Mahajan was the first to clinch her match, winning straight sets 6-1, 6-2 for her first singles victory of 2024. Natalie Eordekian also took back-to-back sets for BC, taking the match 6-4, 6-4. Brown would take a 3-2 lead after claiming the No. 1 and No. 6 matches, putting the pressure on sophomore Seren Agar and freshman Tola Glowacka to mount a comeback effort.Â
Agar carried the momentum from her singles win last Wednesday, tying the score with a 7-6, 6-4 victory. After dropping the first set 3-6, Glowacka would respond with a 6-4 set two win and sealed the deal with a game-winning 7-5 set victory.
"We showed a lot of character and fight after dropping a tough doubles point" said head coach Nigel Bentley. "I'm really proud of our singles performance with our No. 2-5 all getting wins. That hasn't happened for us in a long time, which just shows how much depth we have as a team. Tola stepped up big being a freshman with the match on the line. With all the pressure she showed composure and was able to play at a high level and get the job done. Overall it was a great all-around team win and I'm looking forward to us getting better as the season progresses."
