Eagles see four in double digits led by double-double from McGlockton
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Despite battling back from a 19-point deficit to take a late second half lead, Boston College dropped a 69-59 at the Dome on Wednesday night.
The Eagles began the night cold offensively, trailing 8-0 less than two minutes into the game. The Orange capitalized on BC turnovers, building a 19-point advantage - 28-9 - with 3:54 to play in the opening frame. Boston College closed the half on a 10-2 push, including eight straight capped by a Mason Madsen 3-pointer, making it 32-22 at the break.
In the second half, Syracuse scored the first five points, extending it to 37-22 with 18:02 left to play. After two Orange free throws made it 43-30, the Eagles began to impose their will. A pair of 3-pointers from Claudell Harris cut it to seven - 45-38 - before another three from Madsen and two layups from Chas Kelley III made it a 49-45 game and Syracuse was forced to call timeout.
Another Madsen trey and a layup from Prince Aligbe gave BC a one-point lead - 50-49 - with 7:27 to go. The two teams traded baskets and leads until a Devin McGlockton traditional three-point play tied it at 55-55 with 4:58 to go. But that was as close as BC would get. Another McGlockton bucket cut it to two - 61-59 - with 3:14 to go but Syracuse would score the last eight of the game.
BC connected on 38.7% from the floor (24-62), making 8-of-29 from the perimeter. The Eagles converted three of the four free throws they were awarded. Syracuse made 17-of-23 from the charity stripe thanks to a lopsided foul discrepancy (18-7) for the game - including 10-3 in favor of the Orange in the second half - against BC.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday at Clemson. Tipoff at Littlejohn Coliseum is set for 3 pm and the game will air on ACC Network.
