Boston College Drops ACC Road Opener at Louisville

Thomas Castellanos threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one in the loss.
Thomas Castellanos was 17-of-33 for 265 yards and three touchdowns. Â He also rushed 10 times for 49 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown run. Â He connected with eight different receivers on his 17 completions, led by five receptions apiece by Ryan O'Keefe and Joseph Griffin. Â O'Keefe registered 86 yards and his first receiving touchdown in a BC uniform, while Griffin tallied 76 yards receiving. Â Kye Robichaux rushed nine times for 40 yards.
Louisville found the end zone on each of its first four drives before Boston College got on the scoreboard with 5:38 left in the second quarter.  Castellanos tallied a touchdown on a 39-yard rush, capping a seven-play, 75-yard drive.  After the Cardinals scored again, BC responded with a passing touchdown - from Castellanos to O'Keefe with 33 seconds to go in the first half. Louisville continued to push, converting quickly to close the half.  BC would trail 42-14 at the break.
In the third quarter, Louisville converted another scoring drive on its opening series, but BC would answer right back. Â Castellanos connected with Lewis Bond on a 20-yard strike up the middle. Â The Cardinals added their eighth TD of the afternoon with 10 minutes left in the quarter. The Eagles would find their way deep into UofL territory but could not convert and turned the ball over on downs.
Near the end of the third, Castellanos connected on two passing plays greater than 20 yards to Joseph Griffin before connecting with Bond again in the end zone to start the fourth quarter. His three touchdown passes were a career-high in a single-game.
John Pupel made eight tackles (six solo), while Sione Hala made seven stops - including a sack. Â Neto Okpala recorded three tackles and a sack on the day.
Boston College returns home next week - Saturday, Sept. 30 - taking on Virginia. Â Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on Family Weekend and the game will air live nationally on The CW Network.
