Margo Carlin's Hat Trick Puts Her at Third All-Time in BC History for Goals Scored
HARRISONBURG, Va. – No. 14 Boston College (5-2, 1-0) ended its seven-game road stint strong against James Madison University (2-5), claiming a 7-0 victory to extend its winning streak to three games.
Forward Margo Carlin came out of the gates fast, scoring the Eagles' first goal of the contest just 2:38 into the first quarter, placing the ball into the back of the cage after Kara Heck's shot was saved. The captain wouldn't even let a full three minutes go by before earning herself a brace, deflecting a setup by Simone Hefting and Martina Giacchino past JMU's goalkeeper to extend BC's lead to 2-0.
The Eagles' offense erupted in the second half, scoring five of its seven goals in the final 30 minutes. Peyton Hale opened the half with a powerful strike into the left side of the net off a setup from Juliette Hijdra. Senior Kara Heck would almost double Boston College's lead on her own towards the end of the third quarter, scoring the next two goals for the Eagles, both unassisted. Carlin capped off her dominant offensive showing with her third goal of the day, netting a smooth pass from Eva Kluskens in transition for the hat trick. The captain's performance on Sunday now places her third all-time in BC history for goals scored (43). Martina Giacchino would wrap up the scoring for the Eagles, netting an assist from Kara Heck with 2:33 left in the game.
Boston College flexed their prowess on the defensive end as well, holding the Dukes to just one shot throughout the first three quarters. Caroline Kelly and Emily Gillespie combined for a shutout of the Dukes with Gillespie saving the only shot on goal the Eagles faced. This was BC's largest road shutout since 2018, where they bested Quinnipiac 7-0 to begin the season.

ABOUT THE RED BANDANNA GAME
Each year, Boston College honors Welles Crowther '99 with its annual Red Bandanna Game. The red bandanna was a defining feature used to identify Crowther, who died in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Crowther, known to survivors as "The Man in the Red Bandanna" is credited with saving at least one dozen people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Crowther played lacrosse at BC and worked as an equities trader in New York, on the 104th floor of the South Tower, following graduation.
