Margo Carlin Sent the Game into OT After Last Minute Goal
NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 11 Eagles (5-3, 1-1 ACC) took the No. 5 Blue Devils (7-1, 2-0 ACC) to the limit in Friday night's Red Bandanna Game, but ultimately fell short 2-1 in double overtime.
BC went toe-to-toe with Duke defensively, with both teams failing to break the stalemate through the first 30 minutes of action. Duke would take its first lead of the game with 11:08 left in the third quarter off a goal from Alaina McVeigh to go up 1-0.
Graduate forward Margo Carlin would continue her impressive season with a display of late-game heroics, redirecting a penalty corner strike from Simone Hefting into the goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the final moments of regulation.
Neither side would be able to pull ahead in the first period of overtime. After 73 minutes of action, the Eagles would eventually surrender the game-deciding goal off a penalty corner three minutes into double overtime.
Both sides were evenly matched throughout the entire game, with Boston College and Duke posting nearly identical numbers in shots (14-10), shots on goal (9-8), saves (6-8), and corners (4-4) respectively.
