
Gaby Roy and Abby Newhook Named 2023-24 Captains

Veteran duo will wear the C for the Eagles this coming season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Gaby Roy and Abby Newhook will serve as captains of the 2023-24 Boston College women's ice hockey team, it was announced by Jane Rattigan Head Women's Hockey Coach Katie Crowley.Â
"I am excited to name Gaby and Abby as the captains of our women's hockey program," Crowley said. Â "They have both worked extremely hard in their time here at BC. Â Their consistency day-in and day-out - and their dedication to our team - are what makes them such great leaders. I am confident they will lead our team to a successful season on and off the ice."Â
Roy, a senior forward, appeared in 36 contests a season ago, tying for third on the Eagles in scoring. Â She tied her career-high with nine goals, while registering 10 assists a season ago. Â Boston College was 12-2-0 when she tallied at least one point during the 2022-23 campaign. As a sophomore in 2021-22, she posted career-highs with nine goals, 11 assists, and 20 points. Â A 2020-21 Hockey East All-Rookie team selection, the Marshfield, Mass. product has appeared in 80 games, recording 23 goals and 24 assists for her career.
Newhook, a junior forward, was honored by Hockey East in 2022-23 as a Third Team All-Star after finishing ninth in the league in scoring, with 33 points. Â Her career-high 19 goals led BC last season, ranking as the seventh-most in Hockey East. Â Six of her tallies a season ago were game-winners. Â BC was 14-1-1 when she scored a goal and went 17-2-1 when Roy tallied at least one point and she compiled a +22 rating for the season. Â The 2021-22 Hockey East Rookie of the Year has appeared in nearly 70 games for the Eagles, posting 36 goals and 29 assists (65 points).
