
Richards' Two Goals Leads Eagles to First Victory

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Two goals by Ella Richards and a stout defensive effort led Boston College women's soccer to a 2-0 shutout against San Jose State on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Complex.
The Eagles pick up their first win of the season, improving to 1-2-1 through four matches, while SJSU falls to 1-2-1.Â
Boston College got on the board early thanks to stellar ball movement, as Sydney Segalla fed Andi Barth for a touch pass that led to Ella Richards' first goal of the contest.Â
In the 22nd minute, Bella Douglas' cross found Richards in the box for the score, giving the junior her second score of the contest to help BC go into the half with the 2-0 lead.Â
The defense held San Jose State scoreless for the entirety of the match, limiting the Spartans to just three shots on goal.Â
Wiebke Willebrandt stopped all three shots in the final 45, giving the goalkeeper her second shutout of the season.Â
Boston College posted a season-high 16 shots with nine on goal - also a season best, with eight players posting at least one shot on target.Â
The Eagles return to action on Thursday for a road contest against Michigan at 7 p.m.Â

- Richards is the first Eagle since Samantha Agresti in 2021 to post multiple goals in a contest.Â
