
Eagles Fall in Valiant Effort vs. No. 15 South Carolina

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's soccer put forth a valiant effort but fell to No. 15 South Carolina on Thursday evening at the Newton Soccer Complex, 3-2. The Eagles fall to 0-2-1 while USC improves to 2-0-1.
South Carolina struck first in the 20th minute of the first half before BC tied up the contest when Sydney Segalla found Sophia Lowenberg for the score.
Camryn Dixon scored on a penatlty kick with eight minutes left in the opening frame to send the Gamecocks into the break with a 2-1 lead.
South Carolina came out of the break to score early, pushing the lead to 3-1. BC wouldn't go away quietly, as Laura Gouvin's perfect corner found Claire Mensi, who headed in the goal to slice the deficit to one.
However, South Carolina held BC without a shot on goal over the final 30 minutes of the contest to pull away for the victory.
Four of BC's six shots were on target, while all five of the Eagles' corners came in the second half.
BC aims for its first win of the season on Sunday at Noon against San Jose State at the Newton Soccer Complex.
Notes
- Lowenberg and Mensi found the net for the first time this season.
- Gouvin and Segalla each recorded their first points of the season with assists, while it was Segalla's first-career helper.
- Wiebke Willebrandt saved a season-high four shots. She is 14 saves away from surpassing Kate Taylor for fifth all-time in school history.
