Longtime Assistant Coach Bill McGovern on CFHOF Ballot

IRVING, Texas -- Former Boston College assistant coach and coordinator Bill McGovern is on the ballot for induction into the prestigious College Football Fall of Fame. McGovern, who is on the ballot as a player from his collegiate career at Holy Cross, recently passed at the age of 60.
McGovern's connection to BC began as defensive backs coach from 1994-96. He later served as linebackers coach, including a stint as defensive coordinator, from 2000-12. During his time on the Heights, McGovern mentored and oversaw the development of ACC Defensive Players of the Year Mark Herzlich and Luke Kuechly, the latter a first-round pick and 2023Â CFHOF inductee, as well as first-round defensive tackle B.J. Raji.
As a defensive back at Holy Cross, McGovern set a NCAA I-AA single-season record with 11 interceptions as a senior, including two against Boston College. He was a consensuts First Team All-American for the Crusaders in 1984 and inducted to the school's Athletics Hall of Fame and Football Ring of Honor.
