COVENTRY, Conn. -- The Boston College women's rowing team claimed victory in four-of-five races this Thursday morning against Holy Cross and the hosting University of Connecticut on the waters of Coventry Lake.
BC's 3V8 boat got the morning started with a dominant win over the Huskies with a time of 7:12.5 - besting UConn's time (7:39.8) by over 27 seconds.
The 1V8 race for the Irving-Christensen Cup followed in another strong performance from the Eagles. BC's 1V8 recorded the only sub-seven minute time of the day, clocking in at 6:54.1 to secure the cup for a fifth-straight year. Holy Cross followed shortly after with a time of 7:05.3 with UConn placing third (7:10.4).
The Eagles would keep their momentum in the V8 races throughout the entire day - securing wins in the 2V8 (7:08.8) and 4V8 (7:29.8) to complete their sweep in 8+ events.
UConn would prevent the full sweep as their V4 boat pushed forward to best the Eagles by only 3.9 seconds. The Holy Cross V4 B (8:16.1) and V4 A (8:21.2) boats went on to place third and fourth respectively.
"This team is determined, driven, and fun to work with, and today they did the work to bring home the Irving Christensen Cup for a 5th straight year," said head coach Grace Hollowell. "It was great to see the entire team firing on all cylinders with excellent racing from top to bottom. We are looking forward to more great racing ahead!"
