About the Eagles
Boston College is 21-6 and 8-4 in the ACC having won each of its first four league series for the first time since joining the league. The Eagles are ranked in every poll for the third consecutive week, peaking at No. 9 in both the D1Baseball and Baseball America polls. A pair of Division III graduate transfers headline the BC rotation on Thursday and Friday with second-year Eagle and right-hander Henry Leake getting the ball on Thursday. Fellow RHP Chris Flynn then takes the ball on Friday. Leake is 3-2 with a 4.28 earned run average in eight appearances, including five starts. Flynn is top-10 in the ACC and in wins, ERA and strikeouts with a 6-1 record and 1.76 ERA and with 53 strikeouts in 41 innings of work. Senior center fielder Barry Walsh is BC’s top hitter at .352; splitting time between leadoff and ninth in the order. Graduate catcher Peter Burns is second at .328 with a team-leading .495 on-base percentage.
Road Warriors
Boston College is 13-4 in road games this season and 16-4 away from home with three wins at neutral sites. The Eagles’ 13 road wins are the most in the country and most among Power 5 programs with Eastern Illinois* leading all teams at 14-7. Last season, BC went 9-19 in true road games. The Eagles last won 12 or more road games in 2019 with a 15-13 record. When BC reached the postseason in 2016, the Eagles’ road record was 9-12 with a 14-3 mark in neutral site contests, which included seven postseason games.
Against The Ranked
Boston College is 8-3 against ranked opponents to start the season. The Eagles defeated No. 2 Tennessee (3/7) in extra innings for its first highest win over a ranked foe since defeating No. 1 NC State in 2019. A series win at No. 10 Virginia Tech (3/10-11) was the first for BC since winning twice at No. 25 Auburn in 2021 and first ranked series win in conference play since defeating No. 11 Duke earlier that same season. The BC record for wins in a season against ranked opponents was set in 2016 with an 11-10 record.
