April 19, 2023 | Women's Basketball
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball coaching staff has announced the addition of West Virginia transfer, Savannah Samuel. A 6'1 guard from Woodstock, Ga.
"Savannah excels in a fast-paced system and is a versatile scorer," said head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee. "She possesses the experience, strength and athleticism to be a dominant player on both ends of the floor. Her natural rebounding instincts and unselfish play are impressive. She is a competitor that is used to winning, and I anticipate Savannah to be a commanding presence on the court and develop into a dominant player for us."
Samuel spent two seasons with the Mountaineers, appearing in 54 games and averaging 16.5 minutes per game. She appeared in 24 games in 2022-23, helping WVU to a 19-12 mark and an NCAA Tournament berth. Her best performance came in a 77-45 win over TCU, pouring in a career-high 13 points and seven boards.Â
The incoming Eagle scored a season-high 10 points in her first season with West Virginia - both coming against a top-10 Iowa State team in two of the final three contests, including the Big 12 Tournament.Â
Prior to WVU, Samuel spent one season at Oregon State in 2020-21, where she played in 19 games in a COVID-shortened season. She scored in double figures twice against No. 8 Oregon (10 points) and No. 11 Arizona (11 points). Four of her six-career outings in double figures are against ranked foes.Â
Samuel played at St. Francis High School, helping her team advance to the state title game. She was named the 1A Georgia Private School Player of the Year after averaging 22 points per game. Samuel was a nominee for the 2020 McDonald's All-America Game in 2020.Â
Samuel was a four-star recruit coming out of high school while she was ranked in the top-60 nationally by ASGR. She played for the FBC AAU United Organization as well.Â
Born on June 21, Savannah is the daughter of Patrick and Holly Samuel. She has three brothers and one sister.Â
