Eagles Roll Past Pittsburgh in Red Bandanna Game

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College lacrosse convincingly defeated Pitt 17-2 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in the Red Bandanna Game.
The Eagles improve to 9-3 and 5-1 in the ACC, while Pitt is 4-9 and 0-6 in the league.
Sophia Taglich was honored with the No. 19 jersey for the game, given to the student-athlete that most embodies the values of Welles Crowther. Taglich is the 11th recipient of the No. 19 Jersey, honoring Wells.BC's defense held Pitt to a season-low in goals, while seven players registered at least one caused turnover. Cassidy Weeks and Sydney Scales each had a pair of caused turnovers to lead the defense. Shea Dolce earned the win between the posts, stopping three shots. Ryan Smith paced the Eagles with six draw controls.
The Eagles have held their opponent to under 10 goals seven times this season.
A season-high four players registered hat tricks, with Jenn Medjid firing in a season-best seven goals with one assist for eight points. Annabelle Hasselbeck scored a career-high three times, while Belle Smith and Kayla Martello each netted hat tricks.
Mckenna Davis dished out a personal-high eight assists, which is the most this season in an ACC game and the second-most in a single game in program history. She was one off from tying the record.
It was a slow start for the BC offense in a rain-soaked affair, jumping out to a 2-0 advantage going into the second quarter.
BC exploded for seven goals in the second period, beginning with Cassidy Weeks' lone score of the game. Five different Eagles scored during the surge, leading to a 9-0 lead at the break.
Pitt never threatened the Eagles the rest of the way, as BC claimed a double-digit lead early in the third thanks to back-to-back scores from Medjid and Martello.
BC returns to action next Saturday in what is expected to be a showdown between ranked opponents in South Bend. The Eagles take on Notre Dame at Noon.
