NFL Pro Day Rewind
March 29, 2023 | Football
Four 2022 Eagles took part in BC’s Pro Day in front of 23 NFL teams.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College football hosted its annual NFL Pro Day at Fish Field House on Friday. A total of 34 NFL scouts and team personnel from 23 organizations were on hand to see a total of eight participants on display in preparation for the NFL Draft in April.
Â
New England Patriots personnel coordinator Brian Smith ran the athletic testing segment of the day, while Patriots college scouting director Camren Williams coordinated the position drill portion, which featured BC's top draft prospect Zay Flowers.
Â
Flowers, who finished his career as Boston College's all-time leading receiver in career yards, receptions and touchdowns, only participated in the position drills after participating in the testing drills at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis earlier in the month. Mock drafts by ESPN's Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have most recently speculated Flowers will be drafted 22nd and 25th, respectively.
Â
Three of Flowers' 2022 teammates made waves on the day, particularly defensive end Marcus Valdez, who surprised the crowd by finishing his day with running back drills in pass-catching situations as a fullback. He measured at 6000 (six feet, zero inches, zero eighth-inches) and 259 pounds and turned in impressive numbers in the vertical jump (32"), broad jump (9'7"), shuttle drill (4.36 second) and three-cone drill (7.14).
Â
Defensive tackle Chibueze Onwuka checked in at 5111 and 286 pounds with a 30" vertical, 4.72 shuttle and 7.47 three-cone. He put up 25 reps on the 225-pound bench press; the high of the day.
Â
Safety Jaiden Woodbey (60006, 222 pounds) jumped off the charts with a 35" vertical to go with a 9'6" broad jump. He also raced through the shuttle at 4.14 and three-cone at 6.97. Woodbey, who also worked out at linebacker, put up 21 reps on the bench; a high number at his position.
Â
Four other participants went through the testing, three of which are BC alums, including wide receiver Kobay White. After spending his final season of eligibility at Maine in 2022, White returned to campus and shined in position drills after putting up strong numbers in the vertical (35 ½"), broad jump (10'0") and shuttle (4.33).
