Eagles Downed in Second Round of ACC Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Boston College women's basketball team put forth a valiant effort, but fell to No. 6 seed Miami, 84-69, in the second round of the Ally ACC Basketball Tournament in the Greensboro Coliseum.
The Eagles are 16-17 following the setback, while Miami advances to face No. 3 seed Virginia Tech.
Four Eagles scored in double figures, with Andrea Daley netting a team-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. T'Yana Todd did her damage in the second half with 10 of her 14 points coming in the final two periods, shooting 5-for-7 from the field.
Maria Gakdeng scored 12 points with five boards, while Dontavia Waggoner also recorded 12 and five. Taina Mair led the team with seven assists on top of seven points.
BC's offense shot 50 percent from the field, but the Hurricanes took advantage of the glass with 17 offensive rebounds for 18 second-chance points and scored 24 points off turnovers.
The Eagles jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first quarter after Dontavia Waggoner and Gakdeng scored six straight points. Boston College stayed in front and held onto a 16-14 lead going into the second quarter after both teams traded baskets to close out the frame.
Miami scored the first seven points of the period to go up by five. The Eagles answered as they claimed a went up 26-25 following a layup from Daley. It was a back-and-forth affair as neither team led by more than four points. Trailing by four, Todd canned a corner trifecta just before the buzzer to slice the deficit to one.
Boston College trailed by seven early in the third period before slicing the lead to one on multiple occasions. Miami hit a 3-pointer with 37 seconds left to end the frame with a 60-56 lead.
The Hurricanes used the final quarter to pull away for the win, going on a 4-of-5 stretch midway through the quarter to outscore the Eagles by 11 in the fourth.
