Eagles Upended Versus Pitt

PITTSBURGH Â - The Boston College women's basketball fell to Pitt, 75-64, on Thursday evening inside the Petersen Events Center.Â
BC is 14-15 and 4-12 in the ACC, while Pitt is now 10-16 and 3-12 in the league.Â
Taina Mair turned in a stellar all-around performance, pouring in a career-high 26 points (18 in the second half), seven rebounds, eight assists and six steals.Â
The freshman became the only player in the ACC and one of six in the country to post a game of at least 25 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.Â
Maria Gakdeng registered an efficient 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting with eight boards and two blocks. T'Yana Todd tallied 10 points to round out the leading scorers.Â
A slow start by BC led to Pittsburgh jumping out to an early lead, while the Eagles went through a scoring drought that went into the second period. Pitt stretched its advantage to as much as 17 early in the second quarter.Â
BC trimmed the deficit down to six thanks to Mair and Andrea Daley scoring 11 of the team's points during a 13-2 stretch. The Panthers responded by going into the half with a 36-25 edge, scoring 10 of the last 15 points.Â
The offense came alive in the third quarter to climb back into the game as it shot over 50 percent from the field and scored 25 points. Todd's 3-pointer late in the frame got the Eagles to within three.Â
Pitt answered by going on an 11-0 run to bring the lead to 14 points early in the fourth. The Eagles wouldn't go away, where they got to within striking distance thanks to a 4-of-5 stretch from the field. After the visitors got the lead down to four, Pitt pulled away by making four consecutive shots.Â
The Eagles close out their home slate on Sunday at Noon against Louisville. BC will recognize Akunna Konkwo for Senior Day.
