
New Eagles Arrive for Spring 2023

BC football adds 14 for spring semester.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College head football coach Jeff Hafley announced the addition of 14 student-athletes to the Eagles' roster for the 2023 spring semester, including six early enrollees from BC's signing class and eight transfers.

Four early enrollees come on the defensive side of the ball and two on offense. Joining the defense are defensive backs Shawn Battle (Philadelphia, Pa.), Carter Davis (Baltimore, Md.) and KP Price (Baltimore, Md.) as well as defensive lineman Josiah Griffin (Springfield, Mass.). Additions to the offense include quarterback Jacobe Robinson (Henderson, Texas) and tight end Holden Symonds (Melrose, Mass.).

From the transfer portal, Boston College picked up four players on defense; defensive end George Rooks (Michigan) and defensive backs Khari Johnson (Arkansas), Victor Nelson Jr. (Long Island) and Alex Washington (Harvard). The Eagles restocked the offense with four additions; running back Kye Robichaux (Western Kentucky), wide receiver Ryan O'Keefe (UCF) and offensive linemen Kyle Hergel (Texas State) and Logan Taylor (Virginia).

Battle was a three-star recruit and rated as high as the No. 8 prospect in Pennsylvania. He was a four-year starter at Saints Neumann Goretti and totaled 14 interceptions during his career, while adding 33 touchdowns combined in his junior and senior seasons on offense. Another three-star, Davis put up 65 tackles and three interceptions as he earned first-team all-conference honors for the second straight season with Mount Saint Joseph. Price, like Davis, is a three-star prospect from Maryland. He began his scholastic career at Calvert Hall, winning a MIAA State Championship in 2021, and finished at St. Frances Academy in 2022.

Griffin is the brother of BC wide receiver Joseph Griffin Jr. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound, Massachusetts product comes to the Heights from Springfield Central, where he played football, basketball and track. He was a three-time All-Western Mass and two-time All-State selection.

Robinson was rated as a four-star commit by ESPN and ranked as the No. 9 quarterback in the class. He passed for 2,123 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior at Henderson High School and followed with 1,800 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior. Symonds is a three-star prospect from Governor's Academy. A standout basketball player, he took up football after transferring to Governor's;; catching 27 passes for 343 yards and four touchdowns as a senior. His brother Jay plays football at Stanford.

Rooks spent two years with the Wolverines; appearing in nine total games, including six in 2022. He originally signed with Michigan as a four-star recruit from New Jersey following his career at St. Peter's Prep.

In three seasons at Arkansas, Johnson played in 22 games at defensive back and on special teams. He totaled 38 tackles, including 25 in 2022, and three passes defended. Johnson is from Boston and played scholastically at Suffield Academy (Conn.).

Nelson earned All-Northeast Conference honors at LIU in 2022 as well as a spot on the HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-America Team. He led the NEC with six interceptions and eight pass break-ups. The Gainesville, Fla. native played in 20 games over two years with the Sharks after playing at Buchholz High School.

A graduate transfer, Washington is a former All-Ivy League First-Team honoree with the Crimson. The Hoover, Ala. product played in 27 games at Harvard with six interceptions and 57 tackles. An all-state pick in high school, he played at Mountain Brook.

Robichaux carried the ball 73 times for 496 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry, as a sophomore at WKU. In 22 career games, he totaled 828 rushing yards for the Hilltoppers. The 6-foot, 215-pound back compiled 1,738 yards on the ground for Glenwood High School in his final two seasons.

O'Keefe, a two-time All-American Athletic Conference selection, previously played under current BC wide receivers coach Darrell Wyatt while with the Knights. The Austin, Texas native and Round Rock product, caught 84 passes as a junior, the second most in the league, and 73 as a senior. O'Keefe surpassed 1,000 all-purpose yards in each of the last two seasons; producing 725 receiving yards, 448 kick return yards and 222 rushing yards in 2022.

Hergel played right guard for two seasons at Texas State after previously attending North Dakota. He earned All-Sun Belt Third Team in 2022 and Honorable Mention in 2021. Taylor, originally from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, started all 10 games at left tackle for the Cavaliers in 2022 after appearing in two games as a rookie the year before. He was a four-star recruit out of Episcopal High School (Va.).

The Eagles begin spring practice on Friday, March 3 and play the Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game at Alumni Stadium on Saturday, April 15. The game will begin at 11 a.m. and air on ACCNX.
