Graduate cornerback claims second weekly honor from the ACC this season.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Boston College cornerback Elijah Jones (Harlem, N.Y.) has been named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week as announced by the league office and voted on by the media. The honor marks Jones' second of the season as he previously earned is two weeks ago following BC's win over Georgia Tech.
Led by Jones, the Boston College defense held Syracuse to 37 passing yards and forced four interceptions in a road win on Friday night to run its win-streak to five games. Cornerback Elijah Jones led the way with two interceptions, the first of which came in the red zone. His second pick also came in BC territory. In a tied ballgame and Syracuse driving after a fourth-quarter BC turnover, Jones went up and took the ball away from the defender to regain possession ahead of the Eagles' game-winning drive. Leading 17-10 late in the fourth, Jones tipped a pass that was intercepted by a BC safety to secure the win. Jones added two tackles and an additional pass break-up in the win.
For the season, Jones has five interceptions, all in the last five games and all against ACC opponents. He is first in the ACC in interceptions and passes defended (13).
The Eagles are back in action at home this Saturday against Virginia Tech at Noon ET on ACC Network.
