
Women's Basketball Tripped Up Versus Marquette

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Boston College women's basketball was upended by Marquette 73-65 in the first game of the 2023 Elevance Fort Myers Tip-off at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena.Â
The Eagles will look to finish the weekend at 1-1 tomorrow when it faces Wisconsin in the consolation game at 7:30 tomorrow evening. BC falls to 3-3 on the season, while the Golden Eagles move to 5-0.Â
Andrea Daley turned in a career-high 24 points and a season-best nine rebounds. The junior guard scored 19Â points in the second half while shooting an efficient 9-of-14 shooting from the floor.Â
T'yana Todd rounded out the leading scorers with 12 points on five field goals, while Kaylah Ivey registered six assists.Â
Marquette's offense did its damage in the second and third periods, shooting a combined 66.7 percent (25 percent in the first and fourth) from the field and making seven of its 10 3-pointers in the two frames.Â
The Eagles' defense in the first quarter held Marquette to 20 percent shooting en route to a 16-12 lead. BC went on an 8-3 run with the score tied to claim an 11-6 advantage midway through the period. Daley led the charge with five of the points. Ivey later hit a jumper to push the lead back to five before Marquette hit a free throw to close the gap.Â
It was a back-and-forth affair until Todd's jumper gave BC a 22-20 lead before the Golden Eagles ended the first half on a 14-5 run to go into the break with a 34-27 edge.Â
BC sliced the gap to five on multiple occasions early in the third quarter, but Marquette scored baskets on both ensuing possessions to keep the Eagles at bay. Marquette gained control by going up by double digits at the end of the third.Â
Five straight points by Kayla Lezama to start the fourth brought the lead down to 11. However, the Golden Eagles wouldn't let BC gain more momentum, as it quickly pushed the lead back to 16 and pulled away for the win.Â

- The 24 points scored by Daley is the most by an Eagle this season and the second time in as many games a player has scored 20 or more points.Â
