Eagles Defeat Hokies in Three Sets

CHESTNUT HILL,Mass. - Boston College defeated Virginia Tech in three clean sets by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-17.
The Eagles battled point for point in the first set. The Hokies stayed within three until a 3-0 run by the Eagles opened up the lead to 15-10. Julia Haggerty led the Eagles with three blocks in the first set including one solo block.
The second set was all Boston College. The Eagles opened up the set taking a commanding 9-2 lead. The set was won on a Halle Schroder kill; 25-19. The Eagles hit .344 tallying 15 kills, and the Hokies hit .258 adding 13 kills.
The Eagles closed out the match in the third set. Sophia Lambros and Alayna Crabtree each tacked on an ace early in the set to take a 4-1 lead. The victory was sealed on a 7-1 run led by Crabtree and Cornelia Roach, 25-17.
Schoder led the Eagles with 12 kills, tacking on one ace, seven digs, and two blocks. Roach led BC with six total blocks and hitting .556 with six kills on nine attempts. Setters Grace Penn and Sophia Lambros led the Eagles with a combined 36 assists, Lambros led with 19. Libero Anna Murphy led the defense with 12 digs.
For the match, BC hit .214 (39 kills/ 17 errors/ 103 attempts) and registered five service aces.
The Eagles record improves 13-7 and 2-4 in ACC play and return to action in the Margot Connell Rec Center on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:00 p.m. They finish the weekend of conference play on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1:00 p.m. in Chestnut Hill.
