Sailing Continues to Shine During 2023 Fall Season

Eagles compete at four regattas on the weekend
BOSTON, Mass. – Boston College Sailing completed its seventh weekend of the fall season by placing first overall at the Franklin Lane Trophy team race and the Norman Reid Team Race. The Eagles also competed at the Yale Women's Regatta and the co-ed ACC Championships finals.
The Eagles started off the weekend with a stellar performance at the Franklin Lane Trophy team race, hosted by Tufts. Boston College finished the race with a record of 9-1 over 10 races, which was good for a first place finish as a team. The race was broken up into two rounds, with each team competing in five races per round. The Eagles dominated round one, securing the top three finishers in four of the five races and compiling a record of 5-0. Boston College continued its dominance into the final round, going 4-1 overall as a team and having seven top three finishers. Tufts (three teams), Brown, and Boston University rounded out the six teams that competed at the regatta.
Boston College continued the weekend with another first place finish while competing at the Norman Reid team race, which was hosted by the Eagles. The Eagles competed against three other schools: Brown, Tufts, and Boston University. Boston College finished the regatta with a team record of 11-1 over 12 races. The regatta was split up into three rounds of four races per round. The Eagles started off strong going 4-0 in the first round and having the top two finishers in all four races. The team went 4-1 in round two, and then finished off the regatta with another 4-0 record in round 3. Boston College had the top finisher in all four races of round three. The Eagles were the only team at the regatta with more than eight wins, with Brown (8), Tufts (6), Tufts (5), and Boston University (0) rounding out the five teams who competed.
The Eagles also competed at the Yale Women's Regatta. This regatta was hosted by Yales, and it featured 18 teams. Boston College totaled 150 points over the weekend, which placed them second overall as a team. The A division team of Caroline Sibilly and Katelyn McGauley totaled 62 points. The duo placed top-five in seven of twelve races, including three first place finishes. Libby Redmond and Lily Ornstein totaled 88 points for the Eagles, while placing top-ten in eight races. The B division duo also had three top-three performances throughout the twelve races. Yale won the regatta with 116 points, followed by Stanford (150), Brown (151), and Harvard (168) rounding out the top five finishers at the Yale Women's Regatta.
Boston College completed the weekend by competing at the ACC Open Championship Finals. This Regatta was hosted by St. Mary's, and it showcased 18 teams. The Eagles placed 16th overall with 329 points. Boston College's A division team of Michael Kirkman, Sara Schumann, Aidan Cunningham, and Matt Budington compiled 135 points over the two days. The group had eight top-ten finishes, including two at first place. The Eagles B division team had 194 points over the weekend. The group of Colleen O'Brien, Michaela O'Brien, Matt Budington, and Aidan Cunningham finished with three top-ten placements. Harvard won the regatta with 179 points, and were followed by Brown (186), Dartmouth (198), Coast Guard (207), and Roger Williams (234) to round out the top five.
