Sailing Wraps Up Fall Season with Three Regattas

Eagles complete the weekend with two top-five finishes
BOSTON, Mass. – Boston College Sailing completed its final weekend of the fall season by placing second overall at the Victorian Urn Trophy. The Eagles also competed at the Nickerson Trophy Regatta and the Schell Trophy.  Â
The Eagles started off the weekend with a top-two placement at the Victorian Urn trophy, hosted by Harvard. Boston College finished second overall with 138 points, behind first place Yale (107). The Eagles A division team of Caroline Sibilly and Katelyn McGauley finished with 72 points for Boston College over the two days. The duo had nine top-five finishes over the 14 races, including two second place finishes. They competed alongside the Eagles B division team of Michaela O'Brien and Sophia Hacket who finished third overall out of 15 B division teams with 66 points. O'Brien and Hacket also had nine top-five placements over the 14 races. The duo also accomplished two first place finishes on the weekend. Yale, MIT, Harvard, and Brown rounded out the top five at the regatta.Â
Boston College continued the weekend by competing in the Nickerson Trophy regatta, hosted by Tufts. The Eagles placed fourth overall as a team with 116 points. Boston College had their A division team of Ryan McGauley and Damien Bocan, and their B division team of James O'Gwen and Gabrielle Trinter compete over the two days. McGualey and Bocan finished fourth overall out of 17 teams in their division, finishing with 60 points. They competed in 10 races on the weekend and finished top-ten in all but one race. O'Gwen and Trinter also finished top-ten in nine of ten races. Tufts 2, Tufts 1, Brown, and MIT rounded out the top five team finishes at the regatta.Â
The Eagles closed out the weekend by competing in the Schell Trophy at MIT. There were 18 teams competing at this regatta, and Boston College placed 11th with 248 points. The Eagles had the group of Peter Joslin, Michael Kirkman, Sara Schumann, and Kennedy Laureigh competing in the A division. The four Eagles competed in 14 races, finishing top-ten in eight of them and compiling 144 points. Boston College also had Peter Busch, Colleen O'Brien, Lourdes Gallo, and Libby Redmond compete in the B division. The four Eagles compiled 104 points, placing seventh out of 18 teams in the division. Busch, O'Brien, Gallo, and Redmond placed top-ten in 12 of 14 races, including two top-three finishes. Harvard, Yale, Roger Williams, Brown, and Coast Guard rounded out the top five team finishes.Â
