BC Earns First Top 10 Win Since 2010
RALEIGH, N.C. - STUNNED! Boston College women's basketball pulled off a 79-71 upset over No. 9/10 NC State, 79-71, in front of a near-sellout crowd on Thursday evening in Reynolds Coliseum.Â
The Eagles earned their first top-10 win since 2010, defeating then-No. 8 Florida State in the ACC Tournament, and their first regular-season top-10 victory since downing then-No. 6 Duke at home in the same season.
Boston College improves to 12-5 on the season and 2-2 in the ACC, while the Wolfpack are 12-3 and 2-2 in the league.Â
Four players scored in double figures and two registered double-doubles. Dontavia Waggoner turned in her second 20-10 game of the season with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting with 10 boards.Â
Maria Gakdeng scored 10 of her 17 points in the second half. Taina Mair registered her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points, a game-high 10 assists, and six rebounds. JoJo Lacey rounded out the leading scorers with 12 points, while Andrea Daley totaled a game-high 11 boards and seven points.Â
BC held off a Wolfpack rally after taking an 11-point lead late in the third quarter. NC State sliced the deficit to one possession midway through the final period before the Eagles went on a 5-1 spurt to take a six-point lead, 73-67
The Wolfpack scored on the next possession, but Lacey delivered the dagger with her third trifecta of the game to help the Eagles pull away for their first victory over NC State since 2015.Â
Boston College aims for an ACC sweep on Sunday at 12 p.m. in Conte Forum against Florida State.Â
