
Eagles' Comeback Attempt Falls Short in Loss to Syracuse

Lacey Leads Eagles with 19 Points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College suffered an 83-73 loss on Thursday evening to Syracuse inside Conte Forum.Â
BC is 13-6 and 3-3 in the ACC, while the Orange are now 13-4 and 4-2 in the conference.Â
JoJo Lacey led the offense with a team-high 19 points with five of her six shots coming from 3-point land. The junior guard led four players in double figures.Â
Andrea Daley totaled 15 points and five rebounds. Taina Mair led the game with eight assists and totaled three steals. Dontavia Waggoner registered her third straight double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 off the glass.Â
Despite struggling during most of the game, the Eagles sliced a 15-point deficit in the third quarter to just three midway through the fourth period. The Eagles put together a 13-3 run while trailing 63-50, swinging momentum in BC's favor. Lacey, Waggoner, and Mair scored 12 of the points during the surge in which BC shot 6-of-7.Â
'Cuse led by one possession after both teams traded baskets. However, the Orange kept the hosts at bay by scoring the next six points. Syracuse never less by no less than six points over the final minute for the victory.Â
It was a tight-knit affair in the first 14 minutes of the game until 'Cuse stretched a two-point lead to 12. The Eagles were able to dwindle the lead to three after scoring the final nine points of the first half.Â
Syracuse answered coming out of the break with an 8-0 run to take a commanding lead. The Eagles were outscored by eight before making their last comeback attempt later in the contest.Â
Coupled with 22 turnovers that led to 28 points for Syracuse, BC struggled from the floor, shooting 40.6 percent from the field. The Orange shot 48 percent from the field and 8-of-16 from deep.Â
BC aims for a bounce-back win on Sunday against Virginia in Charlottesville at noon.Â
