Daley Scores 17, Gakdeng Reaches Century Mark in Blocks
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Boston College women's basketball team suffered an 85-48 loss to No. 5 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon in the Purcell Pavilion.
The Eagles fall to 11-5 and 1-2 in ACC play, while the fifth-ranked Irish are now 12-1 and 3-0 in the league.
Andrea Daley scored 15 of her team-high 17 points in the second half on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor to pace the offense. Taina Mair rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points, scoring eight of her points in the third and fourth quarters.
Maria Gakdeng tied a career high with a season-best six blocks on top of five rebounds and three steals. The Lanham, Md. native is now one of seven players in school history with 100 career blocks. She is tied for sixth all-time with Marie Grant (1984-96) at 101 for her career. The sophomore needs three to jump two spots into fourth in program history.
A slow start from the field coupled with turnovers led to Notre Dame jumping out to an early lead. The Eagles scored on back-to-back baskets to cut a seven-point deficit to three, 7-4. However, the hosts went on a 9-0 run to stretch the lead and never looked back to pull away for the win.
Three players scored in double figures for Notre Dame, with Olivia Miles and KK Bransford scoring 17.
Boston College will play its second straight road game against a ranked opponent on Thursday at 7 p.m. against No. 6 NC State in Raleigh.
