Boston College moves to 7-0 on the season with win over Hartford
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass – Boston College volleyball beat Hartford 3-0 on Wednesday evening. The Eagles won by scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-22.
Junior outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif) led the way for BC on offense with a team-high 10 kills on a .421 hitting percentage in only two sets played. Sophomore outside hitter Nikki Steinheiser (Celina, Texas) recorded seven kills of her own on a .375 hitting percentage and added seven digs as well.
In set one, the Eagles raced out to a quick 6-1 lead. Then BC was able to take full control of the set fueled by a six point in seven serve run highlighted by back to back kills from Jensen and an ace from grad transfer middle blocker Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y).
After cruising to another 25-16 win in set two, the two sides went back and forth in set three. BC was able to fend off the Hawks comeback attempts with contributions off the bench from Junior middle blocker Peyton Minyard (Coppell, Texas) and Senior outside hitter Silvia Ianeselli (Trento, Italy). Ianeselli finished with three kills and four digs while Minyard who did a little bit of everything for the Eagles in this one, finished with five kills, two aces, a dig and a block, most notably including back to back aces to force a Hartford timeout and then the final two kills to clinch the set and the match.
Boston College will be headed back on the road for the URI invitational this weekend, with a match against Long Island on Friday at 4 p.m and matches against Marist at 2 p.m and Rhode Island at 7 p.m on Saturday.
