
BC Unbeaten in Bryant Invitational

Eagles win against Bryant, move to 6-0 on the season
Smithfield, R.I – Boston College beat Bryant University 3-1 on Saturday evening. The Eagles won by scores of 25-19, 27-25, and 25-20.
Junior outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif) posted an impressive team-high 17 kills, which is a season high for her so far. Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill) who was named Bryant Invitational MVP, was everywhere in this one, recording 16 kills of her own to go along with 13 digs and three aces. Crabtree's 16 kills is a season high for her so far as well.
Junior setter Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif) powered the Eagles offense dishing out a game-high and season-high 28 assists, coming up just short of her career high in assists at 30 while Junior setter Grace Penn who was named to the Bryant Invitational All-Tournament Team (Manhattan Beach, Calif) tallied 20 assists of her own to go along with seven digs.
After dropping set one 21-25, the Eagles responded in set two racing out to a quick 14-10 lead. Then Boston College finally took control of the set on the heels of four straight points to make the score 19-13 behind big kills and a double block from Sophomore middle blockers Julia Haggerty (Lafayette, Calif) and Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont), Pollock also added eight kills and two digs while Haggerty recorded three kills and five total blocks.
Set three was the turning point in this match, Boston College, after going down as many as seven points at 21-14 mounted a furious comeback to tie the game at 24-24. Then the Eagles rattled off three straight points to take the set on clutch kills and a block from Senior right side hitter Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) and grad transfer Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y) who was also named to the Bryant Invitational All-Tournament Team. Junior libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind) made her presence known in this one as well as she served three straight points to help make the comeback for the Eagles, Murphy also tallied 12 digs.
In set four, the Eagles imposed their will and raced out to a quick 17-10 lead. Then after weathering a very impressive seven points in eight serve run from the Bulldogs, BC finally clinched the match behind three memorable kills in the final five points from Katrina Jensen.
After returning from Smithfield, BC will get ready for a match against Hartford in their home opener at 7 p.m on Wednesday at the Margot Connell Center.
