#16 Notre Dame Tops Boston College

The #16 Notre Dame squad scored three goals in the ACC clash.
NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team fell to #16 Notre Dame, 3-0, on Thursday night at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
The teams battled evenly through the opening 20 minutes and traded chances in their respective offensive zones. It would be the Fighting Irish, though, that broke through first in the 22nd minute.
The Eagles pressured early in the second half for the equalizer and responded to two quick Notre Dame strikes but the visitors held off BC for the rest of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 22' | Olivia Wingate dribbled the ball slightly towards the right side of the field as Maddie Mercado floated back to the middle and Wingate fed a ball through for her to run on to and finish.
- 63' | Mercado fed a ball through to Wingate as she headed in to the box and Wingate slotted it home near the right post.
- 63' | Kiki Van Zanten curled in a long-distance shot.
- Notre Dame had the 16-7 lead in shots.
- The Fighting Irish had a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
- Goalkeeper Wiebke Willebrandt made three saves for the Eagles.
- Boston College is now 1-15-0 in the all-time series with Notre Dame with a mark of 1-3-0 at home.
- Sam Smith and Andi Barth both registered two shots for the Eagles.
- This was BC's fourth consecutive game against an opponent ranked in the top 20 of the national poll … this is the first time since at least the 2013 season that BC has played four consecutive games against ranked opponents.
- The Eagles will host Syracuse on Thursday, Oct. 6 before traveling to face Louisville on Sunday, Oct. 9.
