BC Comes Up Short In Down To the Wire Match

Eagles fall 3-2 vs Syracuse in ACC opener
SYRACUSE, N.Y– Boston College lost 3-2 to Syracuse on Wednesday evening, the set scores were 25-13, 13-25, 18-25, 25-15, and 17-19. The Eagles move to 11-3 on the season while the Orange move to 5-6.
BC came out strong in set one, racing out to a quick 6-1 lead before eventually taking a commanding lead later on thanks to some big early kills from Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St.Catharines, Ont) and two clutch aces to clinch from Junior setter Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif).
Syracuse responded winning both sets two and three. For the Orange, Polina Shemanova led the way with 16 kills and 11 digs and Viktoria Lohmanchuk added 14 kills as well.
In set four, BC managed to stay alive winning somewhat easily on the heels of a 9-1 run to clinch, highlighted by back to back kills from Freshman opposite Audrey Della Vedova (San Clemente, Calif) and Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill).
Set five was anybodies for the taking down to the very last point but the Eagles came up just short as Syracuse was able to finally notch two straight points to clinch the match at 19-17.
Jenna Pollock and Alayna Crabtree paced the Eagles offense in this one with 12 kills each. Pollock also added 5 total blocks and three digs while Crabtree recorded 11 digs, good for her third double double of the season.
BC will be back in action with another ACC matchup against the Duke Blue Devlis on Sunday at 1 p.m at Margot Connell Center in Chestnut Hill.
