September 16, 2022 | Volleyball
BC moves to 10-2 after second match of the Red Storm Invitational
QUEENS, N.Y – Boston College lost to St. John's on Friday evening, the Eagles lost 3-2 by scores of 14-25, 22-25 and 13-15 as they now move to 10-2 on the season while the Red Storm are now up to 8-4 on the season.
After St. John's ran away with set one, the Eagles responded with a tough 26-24 win highlighted by some impressive kills from Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont). Pollock led the way for the Eagles on offense in this one with a career-high 17 kills to go along with four total blocks and two digs, her previous career high in kills was 13 last season against Wake Forest.
After a back and forth set two that included 14 ties and nine lead changes, set three was another close one that came down to the end at 23-23 and then BC once again rattled off two straight points to clinch the set thanks in part to a big kill from Graduate middle blocker Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y).
St. Johns managed to stay in the match, winning set four. Then in set five, it looked it could have been anybodies match but the Eagles came up just short as the Red Storm went on a 3-2 to run to clinch the set and match.
For St. Johns, Rachele Rastelli led the way on offense with 16 kills, and Elonora Tosi added 15 kills of her own as well.
Junior setter Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif) had one of her best matches as she not only dished out 26 assists but also managed four kills on six total attacks and added six digs, a block and an ace doing a little bit of everything for BC. Junior libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind) had her season high in digs with 20 in this one and also added three assists to her name as well.
BC will take on Columbia tomorrow morning at 11 am for the third and final match of the Red Storm Invitational.
