Preseason Notes: Practice No. 6

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Following an off-day, energy was high at Fish Field House and on the outdoor grass fields as Boston College football held its sixth practice of fall camp. Quarterback Phil Jurkovec was bringing the energy upon entrance to the facility with his quarterback room and sustained a high level throughout the morning.

Shazam It: The beginning of practice had a different feel as heavy metal pumped from the Fish Field House speakers; most notably Disturbed's "Down with the Sickness". Bruce Springsteen once again crept into the playlist as "Badlands" could be heard throughout the facility.

High-Red Zone: The Eagles spent a portion of the first half of practice working on high-red zone situations in a 9v9 format… in third-down situations, the offense converted first on a Jurkovec to Lewis Bond first down… the defense responded with a stick by safety Jaiden Woodbey to keep the receiver short of the sticks… linebacker Vinny DePalma followed with a PBU in end zone… the first team reps ended with Zay Flowers catching a ball short of line to gain, he stopped to let defender by and sprinted forward to pick up the first… the second team reps ended with Emmett Morehead completing a pass to Ishmael Zamor, who was tackled down to the pylon for a touchdown.

Ground Gains: The Eagles' run game had another successful day moving the ball with deep runs early in the first team period… true freshman back Cam Barfield started things with a long run off right tackle for the twos… redshirt freshman Xavier Coleman used a burst of speed through a pack at the line of scrimmage for a deep run… true freshman Alex Broome ran left behind a wall of blockers that was engaged with the defense, he changed direction for a long run into open field and into the defense's territory.

Highlights: Jurkovec connected on a 25-yard throw-and-catch to Flowers, who got in behind the corner and underneath the safety… Taji Johnson hauled in a catch off the back of the defender in the end zone from Morehead; both teams celebrated as the defense claimed the catch was made out of bounds… freshman linebacker Daveon Crouch picked up his second interception of camp… the defensive line had the upper hand in third OvD period, including back-to-back sacks as defensive end Marcus Valdez bought real estate in the backfield.
