
Eight Eagles Invited to USA Hockey Women’s National Festival

Eight members of the Boston College women’s hockey program have been invited to the 2022 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo – Eight members of the Boston College women's hockey program have been invited to the 2022 USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Buffalo, N.Y., as announced on Tuesday by USA Hockey.
Current Eagles Cayla Barnes, Hannah Bilka, Kelly Browne and Abigail Levy will join Alex Carpenter '16, Kali Flanagan '19, Megan Keller '19 and Emily Matheson '15 at the National Festival, which will take place from Aug. 8-13 in Buffalo.
The National Festival is USA Hockey's annual event that brings together the top female players in the U.S., from the U18 level to the national team. This year, the camp will be used to select a 23-player roster to compete in the upcoming IIHF Women's World Championship in Herning, Denmark as well as a 23-player roster comprised of current collegiate players (U.S. Under-22) and an U18 roster (U.S. Under-18) that will compete in a pair of three-game series against Canada in Calgary.
Barnes, who will be a redshirt senior, spent this past season as a member of the U.S. Women's National Team that won a silver-medal the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Bilka, a rising senior, was a Hockey East First Team All-Star this past season after recording 33 points on a career-high 16 goals and 17 assists. Levy, who attended the USA Hockey Goaltending Camp in May, led the country with 1,143 saves during the 2021-22 season while also finishing 11th nationally with her .932 save percentage. Browne led the Eagles in scoring in 2021-22 with 34 points off of 10 goals and a career-high 24 assists. The captain also led BC and ranked second in Hockey East with 389 face-off wins and was first among BC forwards and sixth overall with a career-high 27 blocked shots. Browne made her senior national team debut in December 2019.
Barnes, Keller and Carpenter were most recently members of the U.S. Olympic team that won a silver medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing along with a silver medal at the most recent World Championships in August 2021. Flanagan was a part of the 27-player centralization roster ahead of the 2022 Olympic Winter games and played in two games of the My Why Tour. Matheson was a member of the 2019-20 Rivalry Series roster and was named to the roster for the 2020 IIHF Women's World Championship that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Matheson, Keller, Barnes and Flanagan were members of the U.S. squad that claimed gold at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Additionally, alumnae Lee-J Mirasolo '08 will serve as an assistant coach of the U22 squad.
